Donald Parker Obituary

Donald “Don” Gerald Parker, age 81, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was surrounded by his wife and daughter as he departed this life. Born on May 21, 1944, in Harlan County, Kentucky, Don was the beloved son of Henry and Hatti Parker.

Don grew up exploring the mountains of eastern Kentucky alongside his siblings, developing a love for Kentucky's natural beauty. As a young boy, his entrepreneurial spirit emerged. He took on a paper route, learning the value of hard work and responsibility.

Don spent time living and working in Chicago with his beloved sister and her family. His experiences in the city became a source of colorful stories and fond memories that he would share with friends and family for years to come.

From 1965 to 1971, Don served his country in the Army, stationed in Germany. There, he trained as a mechanic, using his skills to ensure his unit ran smoothly. During his service, he earned the nickname "Spiderman" and was recognized for his dedication with a Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Sharpshooter Badge.

After returning from military service, Don met and married his beloved wife, Brenda, who was also his sister’s best friend. The couple eventually settled in Louisville, where they purchased a house with land. He attended Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. Don enjoyed planting a garden and raising animals such as cows, horses, and chickens. Don went on to start own business, Parker Truck Care and Sales. He found great satisfaction in self-employment and took pride in building lasting relationships with his customers and colleagues.

Don was a devoted father to his daughter, Donna. When Donna was young, he made a point of taking her everywhere with him on weekends. Whether it was a hardware store, a truck parts shop, or a car auction, she was always by his side. As she grew, Don encouraged Donna to be confident and pursue her dreams. He especially enjoyed listening to her play the piano, offering unwavering support and pride in her talents.

In retirement, Don cherished spending time with Brenda and his family. He became a proud grandfather, lovingly known as "Pop" to his grandchildren: Elijah, Kaleb, Zoey, and Asher. Sharing moments and making memories with them brought Don immense joy in his later years.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hatti Parker, and his siblings: Louise Parker, Kenneth Parker, Joyce Ledford, Lydia Helton, Charles Parker, and Bob Parker.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Parker; his daughter, Donna Parker Brown; son-in-law, Justin Brown; and grandchildren, Elijah, Kaleb, Zoey, and Asher Brown. Don is also survived by his siblings: Wayne Parker (Freda), Aletha Bryant (Billy Wayne), Bill Parker (Hazel), and Gary Parker (Judy).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Marvin E. Owens Funeral Home in Brodhead, KY.
